Ather Energy

Ather Energy is the brainchild of IIT graduates Tarun Mehta & Swapnil Jain and is among the few hardware start-ups in India. It was founded in 2013 and has received funding from Hero MotoCorp, Tiger Global and Flipkart founders Sachin & Binny Bansal. Aided by a breakthrough in the in-house designed Lithium-ion battery pack design.

The Ather S340 has a touchscreen dashboard connected to the cloud, host of smart features and offers a top speed of 72 kmph. The scooter is designed in-house by Ather and will be manufactured in India. On February 23, 2016, the company unveiled their product to the public at a technology conference called Surge in Bangalore India

Hulikkal

Tork Motorcycles

Tork Motorcycles, which develops electric motorcycles, raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding from a host of investors including Bhavish Agarwal and Ankit Bhati, Co-founders of Ola and Harpreet Grover, Co-founder and CEO of CoCubes. The funding raised will help the firm get their first prototype out in the market.

Founded in 2009 by Kapil Shelke, Tork is currently focusing on creating practical electric mobility solutions in India. In the past, the firm has proved its mettle on international circuits, by finishing third at the prestigious Mecca of Electric Racing, The Isle of Man TT, and has also won the world’s premier electric motorsport race series, TTXGP.

Volta Motors

A Chennai-based startup, the Volta Zap is a crossover electric bicycle with a rechargeable battery. It claims to offer a mileage of 60km on a single charge even without pedaling and will cost just about Rs 7 paise per km. It will be priced around Rs 35,000, which makes it way expensive than the usual bicycle, but some may consider it as a cheaper alternative to a motor bike (considering the non pedalling and the way it functions) that needs registration, etc.

The battery weighs 3kg which can also be used as a power bank for your devices like phones. It is said to be the lightest among such bicycles. Moreover, the bike comes with a universal charger functionality and an LED display. The Volta Zap comes with a Pedal Assist feature that gives 3 full cycle wheel rotation for every single pedal rotation made. There are LED reflectors for night-time riding and integrated facilities for smartphones and customisable body panels.
